About Me

Why do I love bears so much? When did it start? I suppose it started when I got my first bear as a child. He was my constant companion. I told him everything. He was the best listener and keeper of secrets. Not sure what secrets one has when you are little but he never told anyone. He was the one who held bad dreams at bay and tolerated crushing hugs when I was happy. He never complained when I was sick. He ultimately gave his life to comfort me when I was scared and sick. At age of four years I had pneumonia and had to be hospitalized. In those days they put you in an oxygen tent which was a big ordeal to a small child. It was also very damp. Teddy came down with a fatal case of mildew. My parents searched everywhere for the same teddy but to no avail. I could have told them that no other teddy would replace him. So, maybe, I am subconsciously always looking for him.

I also remember going to the toy store. The first place I would go was to the Steiff case. The animals were always in a glass case. We could not afford such animals but I loved to look at them and choose the ones I loved the most. I have definitely more than made up for any lack of Steiff as a child. Can never seem to have too many!!

To support my "bear habit", I had to learn to sew bears. I think about them all the time. It is the most wonderful gift to see each one develop their own personality. I worry when someone wants to order a bear as the face is different for each bear. After all, each of our children are different even though they have the same parents.

So, whatever your reason is to love bears join me in giving a new bear a place to live and be loved. There is ALWAYS room for another bear! They squish together wonderfully and make friends easily. Remember they give love unconditionally and never repeat secrets!!

I currently live in the Sacramento area of California, with four cats, two parrots, and whatever other critters come by for a bite.
